The town of Byala has a population of 2 330 citizens and it is situated 59km to the south from Varna and 79km to the north from Bourgas. The town was established in III century BC and was famous in antiquity as an ancient Hellenic colony called Aspro. As evidence for this serve the ancient stone anchors discovered along the coast. They, as well as several other fragments found from Greek amphorae, date back from VI century BC. There is a Roman fortress near the village among which ruins are found ancient Roman and Greek coins. Since 681 the village has become a part of the First Bulgarian Country. There is a system of consolidated swells near the sea coast left from these times. Today the town of Byala is a prosperous town due to the wine industry development. Here is produced the popular wine called Dimyat. Byala is a sea resort as well. Its natural riches determine the town development as a centre of valuable sea tourism. The large sea coastline combined with the broad-leaved forest, the favourable temperature of the sea waters, and its purity, offer excellent conditions for prophylaxis and recreation on the town coast. Visiting the centre, you find yourselves in front of a rich exhibition of colour photography items representing the discovery and history of the unique geological phenomenon "Belite skali" and a collection of paleo-geological exponents. "Sveta Paraskeva" Church is the oldest church in Byala which is existent even today. It was built in 1847 by the citizens of the town in accordance with the governing laws of the Ottoman empire of that time. The Orthodox Christians' church was not permitted to be higher that the height of a Turk with a fez on horseback. The internal decoration was modest but nevertheless it was well furnished and looked after by the devoted Christians with a lot of love. One of the most exciting legends is related to the origin of "Uspenie Bogorodichno" Church. Its construction is often associated with Byala people's rebellion against the Turkish yoke. They wanted a rich, lavishly decorated church complying with the unbending spirit of the population, its aspiration for freedom and i ndependence. The temple dates back from 1876. The legend says that is the day when the Turkish sent their army to sail in the sea. It was meant to destroy the temple and not allow its inauguration. Then all of a sudden, a severe snow storm sprung up which was considered a sign in favour of Christians and the Turks did not dare to come on shore. Their return encouraged the population. A great attraction offers also the Water slide in the town of Byala, which was opened in 1987 and is situated on the central beach. It has its own catering restaurant with 55 seats. 6km south from the town of Byala is situated Obzor, which in antiquity was called Heliopolis by Greeks, which means "a town of sun". This is a sea resort situated on a broad bay where the east part of Stara Planina Mountain and Black Sea meet. The coastline which is 6km long is actually the longest one between Sunny Beach and Golden sands resorts. During the Roman Empire the town was called Templum Jovis (Temple of Jupiter). In order to guard the sea commercial ways between Constantinople and Danube, the Romans built a fortress in immediate proximity to the town. In the Middle Ages it was in possession of Karvun and the fortress dating back from antiquity was called Kozyak. The Ottoman invaders, however, destroyed it and change the name of the village to Gyozken. "Obzor" is translated from the town ancient name. A place of interest is the temple of Jupiter which was built by the Romans. To the west from the town lay the remains of the Middle Aged fortress Kozyak. North from the town of Byala is the fortress "Cherni nos - Kanarata", a virgin site where only the broad coastline separates the sea waves from the forest. About 30km to the north is located "Kamchia" resort complex. It is situated near the picturesque Kamchia river outflow, among the exotic dense forest, water-lilies and roses of the natural reserve of the same name situated in close proximity to Black Sea. I t has broad coastlines with sand dunes. The climate is really favourable. The summer season starts as early as May and continues up to September.
